2 galleriesMilburn Stone theatre Presents: Urinetown The Musical". In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter. Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

2 galleriesMilburn Stone Theatre Presents "The Laramie Project". Images are from the final Rehearsal taken on May 9, 2024. By Moisés Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project Directed by Elizabeth Hamill, Stage Managed by Karly Laskowski Starring Annabelle Brame, Mike Tucker, Paul Surowiec, Bill Lee, Phil Hansel, Chris Casadonti, Pat Collins, Travis Douglas, John Murphy, Gina Olkowski, Maggie Engstrom, Nikki Cobb, Jenna Horblinski, Riley Calpin, Natalie Hudson, Em McAllister, Cat Schaeffer & Renn Baranowski In October 1998 a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, and others were citizens of Laramie, and the breadth of their reactions to the crime is fascinating. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is presented through special arrangement by Dramatists Play Service.

2 galleriesMilburn Stone Theatre Presents: August Wilson's "Fences". Directed by Alliyah Thorpe - Stage Managed by Anthony McIver - Dramaturgical work by John Gillespie. From legendary playwright August Wilson comes the powerful, stunning dramatic masterpiece that won him critical acclaim, including the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize. Troy Maxson’s yard is his refuge. A sanctuary where, at long last, the grass is finally green. But it can always be greener, right? Troy’s story is both unique and universal — a portrait of the unsteady bridge between fathers and sons, and the wives and mothers who stand cheering for both sides while hanging their own dreams out to dry. A story strong enough to bear the weight of injustice and yearning and love, at its best and its most destructive. And it’s bigger — it’s more — than all of that. Fences is a modern classic, a play that deals with the impossibly difficult themes of race in America, set during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s. A lyrical, heartbreaking love song sung in August Wilson’s unparalleled poetry, about people whose hearts beat vast and deep.
